At Albatross Aviary, we believe that every bird, no matter their past, deserves a chance at happiness and peace. Today, we're honored to share Moe's journey — a story of resilience, care, and the extraordinary dedication of our team. Moe, a beautiful Mealy Amazon Parrot, has an incredible history. At an estimated 68 years old, Moe was wild-caught and has spent much of his life in captivity. Unfortunately, like many parrots, Moe faced challenges that ultimately led to his surrender. After a traumatic incident where he acted out aggressively, causing serious injury to a person, Moe found himself in need of specialized care that very few places can offer. Despite the best efforts of the rescue that initially took him in, his behavior — including aggression towards other birds — was too much for them to manage. That’s where Albatross Aviary stepped in. We welcomed Moe with open wings, fully understanding the depth of care and patience required for a bird with his background. Here at Albatross, we know that birds like Moe often express their fear and confusion through aggression. It takes time, structure, and love to help them heal. Over the past year, Moe has made remarkable progress. With a balanced diet, a steady routine, and compassionate, respectful handling, Moe has shown us his softer side. Though he’s still a bird who values his personal space, he now eagerly steps up for attention and enjoys head scritches from his trusted caretakers. Moe's sweet little "old lady" voice brings so much joy to our team, and we're beyond grateful that he's finally found comfort and security with us. Moe’s journey is a testament to the unique work we do at Albatross Aviary. We recognize that surrendering a bird is never an easy decision, and we strive to create a supportive community around those who make this choice. Our mission is not just to provide a home, but to help birds like Moe reclaim their happiness and well-being. Every bird deserves a second chance, and Moe’s story shows that even the most challenging birds can find peace with the right care. We are so blessed to have him in our flock, and we are proud to be a sanctuary for birds that need it most.
